What can you eat and drink if you have rotavirus infection?

Diet for rotavirus is an integral part of the complex treatment of severe intestinal pathology. Following it helps not only to get rid of diarrhea, attacks of nausea and vomiting, but also to significantly speed up recovery. You should eat foods that do not burden the gastrointestinal tract, but normalize its functioning. If an adult or child carefully adheres to the diet recommended by the doctor, then optimal digestion and peristalsis are restored within a few days. And, on the contrary, eating excessively fatty foods significantly reduces the effectiveness of the therapy.

Rice cereal contains many polysaccharides with a complex structure, which determine its antidiarrheal effect. It also contains B vitamins, which help speed up the restoration of damaged mucous membranes of the digestive tract. Therefore, patients with rotavirus infection are recommended to take rice water prepared according to the following recipe 3-4 times a day:

  1. Rinse six tablespoons of rice to remove impurities;
  2. add 0.8 liters of cold water, bring to a boil, stirring frequently;
  3. simmer over low heat for about half an hour until the cereal is ready;
  4. Cool the rice water under the lid, strain.

If brown rice is used to prepare the broth, then it needs to be boiled longer - about an hour. After straining, a lot of cereal remains, which is also useful for rotavirus. The diet includes rice porridge, casseroles with the addition of dried fruits.
