Citrus fruits reduce the risk of ischemic stroke in women. This was stated by scientists from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom.
Their study involved about 70 thousand women who were monitored for 14 years. It turned out that those representatives of the fair sex who adored citrus fruits were 19% less likely to suffer from strokes than their peers who neglected oranges and grapefruits.
Experts explain this by the fact that citrus fruits contain flavanones, which can prevent strokes. They improve the condition of blood vessels and fight inflammatory processes. An ischemic stroke is nothing more than the formation of blood clots in the arteries and subsequently blocking blood flow in the brain.
