Open Heart Massage

Open cardiac massage is a classic method of resuscitation that involves rhythmic pressure on the lower part of the sternum to restore cardiac activity and breathing when blood circulation and breathing have stopped. This type of massage is the most effective of all existing ones, as it is able to provide optimal oxygenation (oxygen saturation) of tissues.

Open heart massage is performed as follows: two fingers of one hand are folded together and placed on the lower third of the sternum. The patient lies on a hard surface on his back, his chest and shoulder blades are raised, and his head is turned to the side. The second hand is placed on the other hand and covers it where the fingers are. This allows you to evenly distribute pressure when performing cardiac massage. Then you need to start massaging the sternum: you need to press on the lower third of the chest and then release with a force of 50-60 kg. This process must be repeated at least 60 times per minute with a break between each series of presses of no more than 1-2 seconds. It is important to perform the massage in an open way so as not to damage the tissue. At the same time, it is important to note that regular massage can harm the heart and blood vessels, so it must be done under the supervision of medical personnel.
