Mucoraceae are one of the largest families in the order Ascomycota, which includes fungi that infect plants and animal organisms. Fungi in this group are primarily plant parasites or organisms that cause infections in humans and animals. They are also known as “cloud mushrooms” or “fly mold.”
Mucoraceae are heterotrophic fungi that can attack all types of plants, including fruits, vegetables, grains and even the human body. Many of these mushrooms are hazardous to human health due to their ability to cause severe allergic reactions and infections. Some species, such as the fly agaric poicolaevis (white fly agaric), felina conidiata (cat fungus) and stromyl fungus, are known sources of toxins, while other species, such as the mucor melanophthory (chantigrain), have a strong odor and repel insects.
