Agnosia (from the Latin “ignorance”) or sensory agnosia is a violation of cognitive ability in which the patient cannot obtain information about external objects, their properties or relationships using sensory systems (sense organs) and despite the preservation of cortical processes associated with the organs feelings, experiences serious difficulties in identifying objects in the external world, especially persons or inanimate objects. Patients can retain full visual perception, hearing, smell and the ability to sense temperature. In this case, the ability to recognize objects by touch is impaired.
