Clostridium Botulinum

Clostridium botulinum, or botulism bacillus, is a bacterium that causes a serious disease known as botulism. This can happen by eating contaminated food such as canned food or meat.

The botulism bacillus is anaerobic, meaning it does not require oxygen to live. It can survive for several years in soil or water, where it can be introduced into food.

Symptoms of botulism usually appear within a few hours of eating contaminated foods. These may include difficulty breathing and swallowing, muscle weakness, dry mouth, difficulty moving the eyes and headache. If not treated quickly, botulism can lead to death.

To prevent botulism, it is necessary to carefully monitor the quality of food and observe hygiene rules during their preparation and storage. It is also important to know the symptoms of this disease and seek medical help when they appear.
