Gangoza

Gongoza is the name given to the inhabitants of the southern province of Guanajuato in Mexico. According to legend, they owe their unusual appearance to local volcanic activity. It leads to the fact that particles of hot lava during an eruption mix with wind-borne ash, and all this mixes with dust and fumes, forcing you to breathe through your mouth. As a result, the skin color of many locals changes, including the appearance of a characteristic yellowness and whitish coating, which over time becomes a yellowish coating with large flakes.

“Gangozo” is a commonly used Mexican term for those with a nasal pronunciation (1, 2). It is believed that it appears due to the fact that Mexicans often eat chili peppers - it causes smoke in the nose and nasopharynx, and also changes the structure of the mucous membranes over time.
