A mental state is a set of mental phenomena of a person that depend on his mood, well-being and internal state as a whole. It is a dynamic state of the human mind and body that can be assessed objectively and subjectively.
Mental state is determined by various factors, such as genetic predispositions, lifestyle, upbringing, environment, stressful situations, etc. And although these factors may be varied, scientists have come to the conclusion that the human body has its own “normal” psychological basis - “mental homeostasis”.
This concept is based on the principle of feedback in the body: any deviations in the psyche and physical activity are immediately reflected in the psychological system. However, feedback under normal conditions (that is, when a person is in harmony with the world) does not come from the body - its effect on the physiological state is absent. This means that a person's emotional reactions towards the situation are defensive. While the situation itself may correspond to the real situation, to a person, through emotional reflection, the world around him appears distorted. Such adaptation leads to an inadequate psychosomatic response of the body (for example, in a stressful situation, a person has increased energy expenditure, the work of the heart and other organs is activated) and the development of a number of diseases.
