Rosehip is a plant that has long been used in folk medicine to treat various diseases. But not so long ago, Swedish scientists found that rose hips can help prevent the development of type 2 diabetes and heart and vascular diseases.
Research conducted by the University of Lund on a group of obese patients showed that with daily consumption of drinks based on rosehip extract, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart and vascular diseases is significantly reduced. During the six-week study, all participants received drinks made from rosehip extract, followed by drinks made from grapes and apples for another six weeks. After each period, doctors measured the subjects’ body weight, blood fat levels, blood pressure, and also took an analysis of personal glucose tolerance.
The study found that rosehip could reduce blood pressure by 3.4%. It also significantly reduced the level of so-called “bad” cholesterol, which dropped by 6% in a short period. This is very important, since high cholesterol levels are often the cause of heart and vascular diseases.
Rose hips contain many beneficial substances such as vitamin C, carotenoids and flavonoids. Vitamin C helps strengthen the immune system, while carotenoids and flavonoids are powerful antioxidants that help fight harmful free radicals in the body.
Thus, rosehip is not only a tasty and healthy drink, but also an excellent remedy for the prevention of heart and vascular diseases, as well as type 2 diabetes. It is recommended to consume drinks based on rosehip extract daily to get maximum effect.
