Spermaceti oil is the liquid product of sedimentation of the sperm of sperm whales or some species of toothed whales. It is an opaque, oily, colorless solution with a fish-like odor. Scientists distinguish three types of spermaceti oil - oceanic and Atlantic based on male sperm whales and North American from the sperm of female toothed whales. Oils of various origins and types are also obtained from equid animals, which are used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetology. Today, the following main elements of spermaceti are distinguished: phospholipids, glycolipids, cholesterol, triglycerides. Oleic, stearic and palmitic acids are also isolated, and unsaturated fatty acids are present in small quantities. The spermacyl composition is associated with the activation of proteolytic processes in the aquatic environment, as well as due to hydrophobicity to water due to various transformation processes.
