Kostyanka

A drupe is a type of fruit in which a peel is formed from the outer part of the ovary wall, the middle part becomes fleshy and juicy, and the inner part turns into a hard stone containing a seed.

This type of fruit is typical for representatives of the Rose family (Rosaceae), in particular for peach, plum, apricot and some others. The seed protects the seed from mechanical damage and adverse environmental conditions. The fleshy and juicy part of the fruit attracts animals and promotes seed dispersal.

Compared to other types of fruits, the drupe is distinguished by the presence of a hard inner stone with soft and juicy outer tissues. This allows it to perform two important functions - to protect seeds and attract distributors. Thanks to this structure, the drupe is an effective method of seed dispersal for many plants.
