Muscle Sternohyoid

The function of the sternohyoid muscle is the internal oblique muscle; it takes part in raising the pharynx and tongue. It is composed of bundles of striated muscles. Part of it is woven into the transverse process (lamina transversa) of the hyoid bone, and the rest is covered with loose connective tissue attached to the thyroid cartilages. There are two abdomens: long - sternal and short - peripharyngeal.
