The simplest combinations for aerobics

Aerobics is a great way to keep your body fit and improve your health. Musical accompaniment plays an important role in organizing aerobics classes, and for this purpose musical works with a “square” structure are often chosen. Such works have a musical phrase consisting of 4 parts of equal duration, which simplifies the creation of appropriate aerobic combinations.

Each measure of a musical phrase consists of 8 beats, or 4 beats if counted in quarters. Accordingly, the simplest aerobic combinations of elements consist of four figure eights, each of which is dedicated to performing one element once or twice, depending on how many counts the element is designed for.

When composing combinations, you should remember that the first movement in the “eight” should begin with the “leading” foot under the striking note (count). Therefore, for aerobics, you can choose simple combinations of 8, 16 or 32 counts. To conduct a lesson, you can use 4 combinations of 8 counts, 2 combinations of 16 counts or one of 32 counts.

When learning a new combination, several songs may be required until the students are able to complete the entire set of exercises. Therefore, it is important to start with simple combinations and gradually complicate them.

Here are some examples of simple aerobic combinations for 8 counts:

  1. Step right, step left, step back, step forward (4 counts)
Walking in place with knees raised (4 counts)

  2. Step right, step left, turn 180 degrees, step forward (4 counts)
Walking in place with knees raised (4 counts)

  3. Step right, step left, jump forward, step back (4 counts)
Walking in place with knees raised (4 counts)

Use these simple combinations to create your own aerobic workouts and don't forget that regular aerobic exercise will help you improve your health and mood.
