How to properly care for your elbows at home
When caring for your hands, you shouldn’t forget about your elbows. Despite the fact that most of the year they are under clothing, the external environment also has a noticeable effect on the condition of their skin. For example, they rub against clothes, lean on them, put their hands on the table, etc. From such a load, the skin on the elbows becomes rough, often peels off and darkens, which immediately catches your eye as soon as you put on a dress or blouse with short sleeves. Rough elbows contrast sharply with well-groomed hands and fashionable manicure, which is categorically unacceptable.
To prevent such dissonance, the skin of the elbows must be taken care of no less carefully than the rest of the body. Procedures for cleaning, whitening and softening them do not take much time. The main thing is not to forget about this.
The easiest way to do this is by taking a bath, during which the skin on your elbows is steamed. All that remains is to rub it with light circular movements with a rough washcloth or pumice stone, which will take no more than 1 minute, and you should not use excessive force, otherwise you can damage the skin. After the procedure, apply a rich cream to the dry skin of the elbows and rub it in gently.
A loofah and pumice stone can be completely replaced by a homemade scrub made from a mixture of 1 tsp. table salt and 2 tbsp. l. heavy cream, which will cleanse your elbows of dead skin and soften it. All kinds of baths are especially effective: immerse the elbows in them for 7-10 minutes, and then apply cream to the skin.

Every woman pays quite a lot of attention to caring for her face and hands. But representatives of the fair sex often forget about the elbows, which leads to very unpleasant consequences: the skin becomes rough, dark and may even begin to crack, which causes discomfort and even pain. As a rule, in this situation, all efforts are thrown into eliminating the consequences of an indifferent attitude towards the skin on the elbows. Obviously, this problem is easier to prevent than to fix.
Caring for the skin of your elbows does not require special conditions or expensive products. Everything you need for care can be easily found at home. The main thing is to know a few simple rules and secrets for caring for the skin of your elbows.
Cleansing the skin of the elbows
Any cosmetic procedure begins with cleansing. This is the first rule of skin care. It is necessary to cleanse the skin of the elbows before water procedures.
You can cleanse the skin of your elbow with regular body scrubs. Usually they are applied to damp skin and held for 2-3 minutes, then carefully treated with a sponge and washed off with warm water.
A good cleansing effect is achieved using ordinary raw potatoes with lemon. Grate the potatoes and add lemon juice. The mixture is applied to the elbows and kept for 5-10 minutes. This procedure also has a whitening effect.
To simplify the procedure, you can grease your elbows several times with a slice of lemon or a slice of raw potato for 10 minutes.
It is recommended to cleanse the skin of the elbows regularly.
Skin moisturizing should be done immediately after water procedures. Vegetable oils available on hand are very effective for this: olive, corn, sunflower, cosmetic (any).
You need to rub the oil into the skin after it has completely dried. The rubbing movements should be light, as the skin on the elbows is prone to cracking. This procedure must be performed every time after cleansing.
Vegetable oils have a unique ability to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin. At the same time, they retain moisture, relieve irritation and activate regenerative processes. Vegetable oils contain nutrients necessary for the normal functioning of the skin. With regular use, even the roughest problem skin will become soft and tender.
If the skin on the elbows requires treatment, then oil compresses will help. To do this, a cotton pad is moistened in slightly heated oil and applied to the elbow, which is fixed with a bandage for 20-30 minutes. For serious problems, leave the compress overnight. After removing the compress, the skin is washed and lubricated with a rich cream.
Very often the skin on the elbows darkens. It looks very unaesthetic, especially in the warm season. Elbow care includes a whitening procedure. As already noted, lemon juice is quite effective for these purposes. It can be added to other products, or used independently.
Fresh cucumber and parsley have a whitening effect. You can treat the skin of your elbows with these products 15 minutes before taking a bath.
If the skin on the elbows is rough, then it is necessary to take measures to eliminate dead particles. Cosmetic products based on fruit acids are very useful for this. You can use the products several times a week. The duration of treatment depends on the condition of the skin and the depth of the problem.
During the treatment period, it is recommended to avoid using soap. It is best to cleanse the skin with special glycerin-based products.
Exfoliating the skin on the elbows is a fairly lengthy procedure, it is performed over 10-15 days. However, you need to exfoliate daily. After removing dead particles, you need to carefully care for the renewed skin using special creams and ointments.
Cosmetic stores are replete with elbow care products. When choosing a product, pay attention to the composition. Usually the composition includes plant extracts, vitamins and oils. Products with vitamins A, E and F are best suited for caring for the skin of the elbows. Ointments and creams based on linseed oil and extracts from cinquefoil, calendula and licorice are very effective. These products are applied before bedtime.
There are several types of Vaseline-based products that are protective and are used throughout the day.
Among caring procedures, aromatherapy using essential oils occupies a special place. Useful for elbows:
- rosewood oil;
- sandalwood oil;
- orange tree oil;
- avocado oil
The products can be used separately or mixed in equal quantities. It is useful to mix oils with honey, and make masks and compresses from the resulting mixture.
Rough skin on the elbows can be not only a consequence of improper care, but a symptom of certain diseases. If, after careful care, the skin on your elbows still bothers you, you should consult a doctor.
Many people forget about caring for such a part of the body as the elbows. And hard, wrinkled elbows covered with a thick layer of keratinized skin create a very unpleasant impression.
The skin on the elbows can be dry and rough for several reasons:
- lack of vitamins;
- insufficient care;
- sensitive skin;
- and the most important thing is endocrine system disorders (you need to contact an endocrinologist).
You need to understand what most affected the condition of your elbows and deal with the root cause. Contact a dermatologist, he will accurately determine the cause of dry elbows.
General tips and tricks that may be useful when caring for the skin of your elbows
Drink vitamins A and E, eat more greens. Several times a week, carry out a set of procedures that will make elbow care effective (if elbows do not cause you problems, twice a week will be enough). Whiten rough elbows - they usually stand out with darker skin color. Whitening cream or a slice of cucumber will do (you need to wipe your elbows with it daily).
Do not lean on your elbows while sitting at the table. It is this habit that adversely affects the condition of your elbows and leads to the appearance of rough skin.
CLEANSING
Before taking a bath or shower, take a slice of lemon and rub it on your elbows.
You can cut a lemon or grapefruit in half and mash their pulp, but do not remove it from the “cups” of the zest. Place your elbows there for 10-15 minutes. If there are cracks in the skin, then you should not use this recipe. It is better to mix glycerin and vinegar essence in equal parts and lubricate your elbows with this mixture.
While washing, don't forget to rub your elbows with a washcloth or body scrub.
You can prepare the scrub yourself by mixing sour cream and salt.
ELBOW BATHS
Recipe 1: Take baths for your elbows once a week: pour 1 liter of hot soapy water into a container and add 50 g of baking soda. Lubricate your elbows with cream and put them in water for 10 minutes, rubbing with a pumice stone, then lubricate them with cream again and continue to keep them in water for another 10 minutes. Finally, lubricate your elbows with cream. After 8 - 10 such baths, the skin of the elbows takes on a normal appearance.
Recipe 2: Once a week, make baths from heated oil - olive, sunflower, corn. Do not heat the oil too much; the bath should last about 15 minutes.
Recipe 3: Baths can also be made using a decoction of medicinal herbs (chamomile, sage, mint, birch, yarrow). Ratio: 1 tablespoon of fresh or dry herb per 1 liter of water.
