Ginger is a perennial reed plant of the ginger family. It is cultivated in the subtropical regions of Africa, Asia and America.

Ginger is used as a spice. In crushed form, it is added to dough for making muffins, gingerbreads, cookies, to candy mass in the production of lollipops, to hot sauces and meat dishes. Ginger is an essential component of bitters and aperitifs. In perfumery it is used as an aromatic fragrance.

The rhizome serves as a medicinal raw material. Depending on the degree of processing, it has a white or dark brown color, a peculiar aroma and a bitter-burning taste. The raw materials contain essential oils, zingiberin, zingerol, sha-geol, as well as starch, fatty oils and tannins.

In ancient Rome, ginger was used as an anti-plague remedy. Currently, it is used to increase appetite and eliminate vomiting. In folk medicine in East Asian countries, ginger is prescribed for headaches, bronchial asthma and as an anti-trichomoniacal agent.

People use "ginger tea". To prepare it, pour 1 teaspoon of crushed raw materials into 2 glasses of water, boil for 40 minutes, filter and add sugar. Use after meals for a feeling of heaviness in the stomach, nausea and vomiting.

To increase appetite, an alcoholic tincture of ginger is prescribed. To prepare it, 10 g of well-crushed root is poured with 40% alcohol and left in a warm place for 15 days, shaking occasionally. Take 10-15 drops 3 times a day 20 minutes before meals.
