Oddi Sphinx is an Italian surgeon who made significant contributions to the development of gastrointestinal surgery. He was born in Turin in 1876 and began his career as a physician in Paris, France. In 1898 he moved to Naples, where he continued his practice. Since 1900, Oddy began to specialize in surgery of the gastrointestinal system.
Oddi developed a gall bladder surgery technique known as laparotomy. This technique allowed surgeons to operate on the intestines and other organs without cutting into the abdominal cavity, greatly reducing the risk of infection and postoperative complications. In addition, Oddi developed methods for diagnosing and treating various gastrointestinal diseases, such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease and colitis.
