Osteochondrosis (Osteochondrosis)

Osteochondrosis is a degenerative-dystrophic lesion of the intervertebral discs, accompanied by their dehydration and rupture of the fibrous ring. This leads to a decrease in the height of the disc, which in turn leads to the convergence of adjacent vertebrae and causes compression of the nerve roots and spinal cord.

The main reasons for the development of osteochondrosis:

  1. Hereditary predisposition

  2. Excess body weight and weak back muscles

  3. Heavy physical work, heavy lifting

  4. Staying in uncomfortable positions for a long time

  5. Spinal injuries

  6. Smoking, physical inactivity

The main symptoms of osteochondrosis:

  1. Back pain that gets worse with movement

  2. Numbness and weakness in the limbs

  3. Headache

  4. Dizziness

  5. Sensory disorders

To treat osteochondrosis, drug therapy, physiotherapy, massage, and exercise therapy are used. In severe stages, surgery may be required.

Prevention of osteochondrosis consists of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, controlling body weight, proper nutrition, playing sports and strengthening the muscle corset.
