Gland of the Apex of the Tongue

Language has a complex structure. At the end of each tongue there are endings of glands, and on the side of the rise there are endings and vessels. The wall of the tongue is covered with glandular papillae. When processing food, they secrete saliva, rich in enzymatic composition. The latter contains amylase, which breaks down carbohydrates into dextrins and sugars; lysozyme is an antibacterial substance, etc. In some diseases, the glands undergo changes. Most often, the gland becomes hypertrophied - increases in volume, which indicates an increase in the activity of the function, but also atrophies, decreasing in size. It can also become deformed - become thread-like or roll-like. There may also be enlargement of one of the nipples, which is called hypersonization. Such changes require medical supervision.
