Antiquity for fitness and bodybuilding

Everyone will agree that beauty is a relative concept. So the beauty of the figure depends on the relationships of the body parts, i.e. proportions. For example, the ratio of the lengths of the torso to the limbs, etc.

The proportions of the human body change with age and differ among representatives of different nationalities, races and nations.

Since ancient times, even in the era of antiquity, representatives of culture and art have sought to find classicism in the relationships of parts of the human body, in order to recreate a figure that meets the laws and so-called canons of beauty. The proportions they found were later reflected in the works of art they created, signaling the canons of beauty accepted at that time.

For bodybuilders who are looking to improve their physique, gain physical strength, and improve their health through weight training, learning and understanding proper proportions and physique is a critical means to achieving their goals.

Issues of bodily beauty, harmony and comprehensive proportional physical development of the human body have always remained relevant for centuries and millennia. As now, people of those distant times wanted to look perfect, to have the bodies of Gods. All these dreams, desires and aspirations were eloquently reflected in ancient sculptures, frescoes and paintings that have survived to this day...

Most of all, “Doriphoros” (a young man with a spear), created by the ancient Greek sculptor Polycletus, was recognized as a standard and canon of beauty, and was a Greek standard, which in turn was also based on the canons of ancient Egypt.

Proportions:

  1. the young man's face is 0.1 part of the body length,
  2. head is 0.125,
  3. and the length of the foot is approximately 0.167,
  4. the head, including the neck, is also 0.167 in length, i.e. equal to the foot.

These are the basic proportions of the ideal physique of an athlete, which have been brought down to the present day in sculptures and frescoes by the era of antiquity.

Well, about what the new canons of beauty for modern athletes are, please read in this article, well, and here I end my short excursion into the past...
