Contamination with radioactive elements

Explosions, fires and other nuclear disasters are accompanied by contamination of the environment with radioactive substances. They are also contained in the air, dust, carried by the wind, and settle on the soil (usually after rain), polluting everything around.
Radioactive substances can also leach into water and contaminate homes, equipment, plants and animals, as well as animal products, especially milk. Minor radioactive contamination incidents may occur when handling radioactive fuel.
