Acupressure Self-Massage

Born in the 20th century, acupressure massage (shia tsu) is a modern, unique interpretation of the traditional Japanese amma massage, which has been practiced for centuries within the framework of oriental medicine.

The wide popularity of this method in the East (and recently in the West) serves as proof of the high effectiveness of shiatsu therapy, which helps maintain and improve human health and cure many diseases.

The basis of acupressure is the doctrine of biologically active points (BAT), acupuncture points. There are several hundred BAPs on the human body, but even acupressure specialists usually use only about 150.

With the help of BAP self-massage, you can alleviate your condition with various diseases of the stomach and intestines. They can complete a complex of therapeutic exercises.

Technique for performing acupressure self-massage

Acupressure self-massage is done with the tip of the thumb or index finger or the joint of a bent index finger (Figure 7).

Two methods of influencing BAP are used - stimulating and calming.
The technique of performing the stimulating method of influence is as follows: for 3-4 seconds, make rotational movements clockwise, “screwing in” the finger with pressure on the point, then the massaging finger is sharply torn off (as if a bird is hitting with its beak). This movement is repeated 8-10 times at one point, which is approximately 30-50 seconds of exposure.

Calming method technique: make rotational movements clockwise for 5-6 seconds, going deeper and pressing on the point, then “unscrew” the finger counterclockwise, gradually reducing the pressure also for 5-6 seconds. Then, without lifting the finger from the fixed point, this cycle of movements is repeated depending on the recommendations (when exposed to the calming method, 4 entries and exits are performed within 1 minute, each for 15 seconds; if it is necessary to act for 2 minutes, then 8 entries and exits are performed) .

To find the desired point on the body, you should use the landmarks that will be shown in the pictures, and then, carefully shaking the tip of your half-bent finger, feel for the place where the desired point should be. If the finger encounters some kind of compaction or, on the contrary, “fails”, this is most likely a BAT. If at the same time you have a feeling of unexpected pain, there is no doubt that you have hit the target.
