_Halisteresis_ is the process of interaction of salt with substances containing carbonate or gypsum. This phenomenon is called “halochesis” (from the Greek halos - salt and chezein - to split), but in Russia it is more often given the specific name _chalcogenolysis_.
This phenomenon was based on the observation of the French doctor Henri Brongniart, who said that some other salt is released in a salt solution. This theory was later confirmed, which allows us to talk about the reaction of salt formation.
Most often in medicine, this reaction is called the “Hempelring reaction”; it is observed in all saline solutions. This is the reaction of albumin and mineral salts with their subsequent interaction with acids and bases.
It is thanks to this chemical reaction that most mineral waters from salt springs do not match their taste and smell in their properties, which can be observed during long-term storage. This stage is called halisteresis.
