During the primary and secondary examinations, the victim is found to have damage caused by the injury or illness. The term “signs and symptoms” is used throughout this manual and refers to details that indicate an injury or illness. Signs and symptoms include: the victim's behavior, complaints, that is, subjective sensations that the victim tells you, as well as objective data indicating an injury or illness that can be seen or determined by hearing. Signs and symptoms help you identify if the victim has a problem that requires first aid.
