Prevention and Treatment of Osteochondrosis

Osteochondrosis is a disease that is associated with degenerative changes in the intervertebral discs. It can lead to back pain, limited movement and other health problems. To prevent and treat osteochondrosis, it is necessary to fulfill a number of requirements that can help reduce the risk of this disease or cope with it.

One of the key aspects of the prevention and treatment of osteochondrosis is the correct position of the body during sleep. You should sleep on your back or stomach on a hard bed. To improve support for the spine, you can place a “shield” under the mattress - centimeter-thick plywood or knocked down boards. The length of the “shield” should correspond to the length of the bed.

Morning exercises lasting 10-15 minutes are very useful for osteochondrosis, which can help strengthen the back muscles and improve the mobility of the spine. The complex should include exercises for mobility of the spine in all its parts and directions, for the joints of the arms and legs (including swing movements). However, during the period of exacerbation of osteochondrosis, jumping, skipping and running, which create a large load on the intervertebral discs, are contraindicated.

For people working in one position (for example, sitting or standing), it is necessary to take physical training breaks lasting 5-6 minutes every 1.5-2 hours, i.e. 3-4 times during the working day in the initial standing position; for those working while sitting - 2-3 times during the working day in the initial sitting position; for those working sitting, standing and walking - 1-2 times a day in the starting positions of sitting and standing. The classes include exercises for mobility of the spine in the cervical, thoracic and lumbar regions in all directions.

However, with osteochondrosis, you need to be careful with physical exercises, especially if they involve stress on the abdominal muscles. Patients with osteochondrosis should completely exclude (or at least sharply limit) abdominal exercises from their therapeutic gymnastics complexes. For the same reason, at first physical exercises are carried out in fixing bandages or a corset.

In addition, for the prevention and treatment of osteochondrosis, it may be useful to regularly visit a massage therapist, who needs to be informed about the presence of the disease. If symptoms of osteochondrosis persist or worsen, you should consult a doctor to prescribe treatment.

Treatment of osteochondrosis may include the use of medications, physiotherapeutic procedures, massage, and physical therapy. When prescribing treatment, the doctor takes into account the degree of development of the disease and the individual characteristics of the patient.

Osteochondrosis is a disease that can be prevented and successfully treated if certain rules are followed. It is important to pay attention to the correct position of the body during sleep, regular morning exercises and physical exercises for the mobility of the spine in all its parts and directions. It is also necessary to take into account the specifics of your work and regularly take physical breaks to prevent stress on the spine. By following these rules, you can reduce the risk of osteochondrosis and improve your health.
