Cholesterol esterase – definition, function and application in medicine

Cholesterol esterase (CE) is an enzyme of the lipase class isolated from the pig pancreas. The chemical name of the enzyme is phospholipase A2. ChE actively destroys plasma lipoproteins and, above all, neutral cholesterol. The chemical structure of the enzyme has been fully studied. It consists of two polypeptide chains; a phosphoric acid residue and a group of polar acids of a hydrophobic nature are attached to the surface of the molecule: CH3H2COOC, KH4O8, as well as FAMRZ or FIRC.
