Reflex Gluteal

The gluteal muscles are represented by two large muscles - the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius, and two small muscles - the gluteus minimus and longus. The function of these muscles is to move the thigh from a position flexed at the hip joint and rotated inward forward to an extended position; in addition, they are involved in adducting the thigh on the foot. The gluteal, as well as the iliopsoas and biceps femoris muscles take the starting position to begin performing the main part of the squat. The position is considered correct squatting technique only when the knees extend to a right angle with the hip, but in no case go beyond it (see “Squat technique”).
