Soy milk is harmful to dental health

Soy milk causes significantly more damage to teeth than cow's milk - this is the conclusion reached by Australian scientists from the University of Melbourne.

Studies have shown that when drinking soy milk, the level of acidity of bacteria formed in the oral cavity is five to six times higher, Live Science writes. Acids in the mouth promote the formation of plaque, which in turn causes tooth decay.

However, notes professor of microbiology William Bowen, it is not yet possible to say unequivocally that soy milk destroys teeth. The research was carried out in laboratory conditions, and further experiments and observations are necessary to confirm the results obtained.

According to Bowen, a lot depends on the amount of soy milk consumed. Drinking one glass a day is unlikely to cause serious harm to teeth, but if you are an infant who regularly bottles soy milk, the risk may increase. Meanwhile, cow's milk does not harm teeth, no matter how much it is consumed.

Soy milk, made from soybeans, also has a number of benefits. Due to its plant origin, it, unlike milk of animal origin, does not contain cholesterol. And at the same time, it contains almost the same amount of protein. Soy milk is lower in fat, but also low in calcium.
