GOOG night kids!

GOOG night kids!

If your baby has trouble sleeping, his health is at risk, as it directly depends on the quality of sleep.

What indicates sleep disturbances and how to ensure that your child gets enough sleep regularly, says Andrey KIRPISHCHIKOV, head of the center’s somnology office.

Sleep disturbances are very often noticed in infants. Babies wake up repeatedly at night, cry, and refuse to breastfeed. They cannot be euthanized, and the whole family suffers from this. Dad, who has to go to work in the morning, can't sleep because of the baby's crying, mom gets nervous, and her milk runs out. Some children wake up early, at about five in the morning. Or they shudder in their sleep, scream and moan.

In preschool age - up to seven years - sleep talking and sleepwalking cause concern for parents. The child talks or gets up in his sleep, tosses and turns a lot and sleeps poorly. Bedwetting is common in children of this age. Parents say that the child sleeps very soundly and cannot wake up on his own to go to the toilet. And it is very difficult to wake him up. Waking up in the morning, the baby experiences a feeling of guilt and acutely senses his inferiority. He is nervous and capricious, and this keeps everyone in the household in suspense. In this case, it is not only the child who needs help. It is better to consult a doctor with the whole family.

Another problem is night snoring. Its cause may be diseases of the throat, nose or breathing pathology. As a result of stopping breathing, the amount of oxygen in the blood decreases, and the person wakes up. Frequent awakenings lead to the fact that he does not get enough sleep and does not rest as he should. During the day, such a child constantly wants to sleep, it is difficult for him to concentrate, and it is difficult for him to study: Typically, children with this pathology are stunted and overweight. This happens because during one of the stages of sleep, the body produces growth hormone and a substance that liquefies fat. If sleep is disturbed and a person often wakes up, hormonal imbalances occur and he or she has a tendency to become overweight.

When the child goes to school, it will be more difficult to get rid of problems. He will already have many tasks ahead of him: he will have to adapt to a new daily routine, new rules of behavior, and the ability to concentrate in class. Therefore, you should consult a doctor at the slightest sleep disturbance. What exactly caused the disorder is determined by a somnologist.

The main cause of sleep problems in teenagers is stress. The child has to come into contact with children from different families, including disadvantaged ones. When communicating, teenagers often have contradictions and disputes, causing conflicts and confrontations. It happens that a child ends up in an antisocial environment, and the parents do not suspect anything for the time being. And they know nothing about the problems that disturb the peace and sleep of their son or daughter. Pay attention to your child's sleep; it can tell you a lot, and then you won't have to sound the alarm.

During a sleep study, the doctor will use various physiological parameters of the body to determine what causes the child’s multiple awakenings and what is the cause of poor sleep. The doctor will advise what you need to pay attention to when treating a sleep disorder, prescribe medication or non-drug treatments (including those based on a unique light therapy technique). Consultations with a psychotherapist and psychologist at a sleep center will be very helpful in resolving your problem.
