Microorganism Anaerobic

Microorganisms called "anaerobic" are a special group of microorganisms that cannot carry out most biochemical processes without oxygen. They live in soil where there is not enough oxygen to feed aerobic organisms. These organisms are also known as anaerobic bacteria or methanogens.

Anaerobic bacteria use oxygen when it is available, but when oxygen is not available they turn to other energy sources. One such source is glucose, which is converted into ethanol and then into carbon dioxide and water. Anaerobic bacteria also use other organic substances such as carbohydrates and lipids.

Methane can often be produced by anaerobic bacteria in anoxic conditions. This methane has a distinctly unpleasant odor and is found in many layers of the Earth, from the surface layers to the deeper layers. The presence of methane in large quantities reduces the oxygen content in the atmosphere
