Mucopolysaccharides

Mucopolysaccharides are biopolymers that make up the connective tissues of many mammalian organs. These include the dermis, bone tissue, synovial membrane of joints, cartilage of the trachea and bronchi, as well as the lungs and some other organs.

Mucopolysaccharides contain long, unbranched chains of sugars. Elastic tissues (elastic cartilage, gelatinous substance) are especially rich in them, which are able to maintain a constant shape when stretched or contracted.
