Tendon Strain

A tendon strain is an injury to ligaments and tendons caused by sudden movement or stretching. Tendons are made up of many fibers that are connected together and provide strength and flexibility to the muscles. When these fibers become damaged or stretched, it can lead to pain, swelling and loss of function.

Symptoms of a tendon strain include severe pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited mobility. The most common places where a tendon strain can occur include the ankles, wrist, knee, shoulder and neck.

Treatment for a tendon strain may include immobilization of the injured part, ice, massage, and anti-inflammatory medications. Surgery may be required in severe cases or when the tendon is torn.

Prevention of sprains includes strengthening muscles and joints, adequate warm-up and proper technique when performing exercises.
