Hydrogen value (pH)
Hydrogen index (pH) is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. pH indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) in a solution. The more H+ ions, the lower the pH and the more acidic the solution.
pH is measured on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14. A solution with a pH less than 7 is considered acidic, and a solution with a pH greater than 7 is considered alkaline. A neutral solution, such as pure water, has a pH of 7.
In everyday life, pH is important for many processes - from the functioning of gastric juices to acid rain. pH control is essential in the production of food, beverages, cosmetics, detergents and other products. pH measurement is widely used in agriculture, medicine, chemical industry and environmental monitoring.
