Snoring is a very unpleasant phenomenon. Many people believe that only men have the problem of snoring, but this opinion is very erroneous. Women can suffer from snoring in two cases: when her bed partner snores, and when she snores herself. Often women do not sleep, listening to their husband’s breathing, especially when the pauses in breathing become prolonged (90-120 seconds). All this directly affects the duration and quality of sleep not only of the snoring person, but also of his life partner.
The cause of snoring and breathing problems during sleep in the fair half of humanity can be various pathologies: deviated nasal septum, chronic rhinitis, nasal polyposis, as well as hypertrophied palatine tonsils due to chronic tonsillitis. Excess weight can also contribute to snoring.
With the onset of menopause, due to changes in hormonal status, accompanied by a sharp decrease in estrogen levels, the incidence of snoring and obstructive apnea syndrome among women increases sharply. This is associated with both weight gain and a progressive decrease in the tone of the smooth muscles of the nasopharynx.
Snoring is caused by flabby muscles of the soft palate, which relax during sleep and begin to vibrate when exposed to air. In particularly difficult cases, soft tissue completely blocks the throat, stopping breathing for 10 or even more seconds - this condition is called apnea. So, in an hour of active snoring, oxygen supply can be interrupted up to 50 times, which the next day can result in headache, fatigue, daytime sleepiness, and bad mood.
The following people are at risk of becoming snorers:
- People suffering from obesity and endocrine disorders;
- Tobacco and alcohol lovers;
- Women after menopause and men after 40 years.
Snorers who disturb the night's peace with these sounds rarely notice their own snoring. Usually those who are bothered by this snoring feel all the “delights” of night songs. And not only because snoring has an unpleasant combination of sounds for our ears, which makes it difficult for another person to fall asleep for a long time. In addition, extraneous sounds simply interfere with normal sleep; they wake you up in the middle of the night, sometimes several times. Most often, people try to get rid of snoring so as not to disturb others’ sleep, because it doesn’t seem to bother snorers.
Folk remedies for snoring:
-
Thoroughly crush the cabbage leaf with honey. Use at night before bed. Or take a glass of fresh cabbage juice and mix with 1 tsp. honey Drink before bed for a month.
-
Eat baked carrots 3 times a day an hour before meals.
-
4 hours before bedtime, drop a few drops of sea buckthorn oil into each nostril. After 2-3 weeks of this treatment, nasal breathing will become free.
-
Mix 1 tbsp. calendula flowers and oak bark, pour 0.5 l. boiling water, leave covered for 2 hours, strain. Gargle after meals and before bed.
-
There is a way to combat snoring for those who sleep on their backs (and, as you know, such people snore more intensely): sew a table tennis ball into the “snore’s” nightgown. Feeling discomfort, a person will turn on his side without waking up, and snoring will stop for a while.
-
In the morning and evening, pronounce the sound “and”, while straining the muscles of the pharynx, soft palate and neck. Repeat the exercise 20-30 times.
-
Exercise: mouth closed, breathing through the nose. Tighten the back wall of the tongue and forcefully pull the tongue towards the throat. If you put your fingers under your chin, you can feel how tense the muscles are. This exercise should be repeated several times a day, making 10-15 tongue movements. The exercise strengthens the palate and the person stops snoring.
Folk remedies are quite effective, but if they do not help you, then make an appointment with a doctor
