Insulin in bodybuilding

At the moment it is already difficult to answer the question: “Who first came up with the idea of using insulin in bodybuilding, to increase muscle mass, but otherwise a brilliant breakthrough this find cannot be called enough. What can we say about the effectiveness of the use of insulin in iron sports? There are a number of views and concepts on this matter. Compared to the widespread use of anabolic androgenic and steroid medications in bodybuilding, which, in fact, have already been accepted as an absolute dogma, the situation with insulin is not as simple as it might seem to someone at first glance.

To systematize this article, I will conditionally divide bodybuilders and representatives of sports medicine into two opposing camps: those who are of the opinion that insulin “should be used in bodybuilding” and those whose opinion is that insulin should not be considered a means of increasing muscle mass. So which of them “talks the talk” and which one is disingenuous? To understand this, let's try to understand the effect of insulin on the human body.

Insulin in our body

Insulin is hormoneproduced by pancreatic cells. He calls reducing blood sugar levels. Insulin affects intracellular structures, for example, the structure of mitochondria, promoting increasing the efficiency of energy processes cells. In addition, this hormone directly affects fat metabolism in our body, in case of its deficiency, the synthesis of so-called fatty acids is inhibited. In addition, insulin plays an important role in amino acid metabolism, preventing their breakdown into glucose, thereby enhancing protein synthesis.

Insulin for medical purposes

Insulin is rightfully considered the main treatment for such a terrible disease as diabetes. Previously, it was obtained mainly from the pancreas of animals - first from cattle, then from pigs (their insulin is closest to human insulin). Later, methods of chemical synthesis of this drug began to be used, but the technology of this production method turned out to be unreasonably expensive and inaccessible. Currently, even biotechnical methods for the production of human insulin are being practiced. Innovations in genetic engineering make it possible to obtain this much-needed drug, which is absolutely identical to human insulin in amino acid composition.

Now let's move on to considering the use of insulin in bodybuilding.

What's the point of using insulin in sports? Is it considered anabolic? Is it really possible to use insulin for muscle growth? How  is insulin used in bodybuilding? - Let's try to answer all these questions...

Exists many methods of using insulin in bodybuilding as a drug to increase muscle mass. Naturally, they differ from each other, but they also have something similar in them. But before we describe them in detail, let’s pay attention to several extremely important points that may radically change your attitude towards the insulin therapy we are studying.

  1. Under the influence of insulin, muscle cell membranes become maximally permeable. The drug ensures the transport of not only amino acids and glucose, but also other substances. Other substances may well be anabolic steroids. As a result of this, the “Insulin + Anabolic” combination becomes simply hyper-effective. Naturally, this refers not only to anabolic steroid drugs, but also to all kinds of androgenic drugs. Actually Insulin helps accelerate and facilitate the penetration of androgenic and steroid molecules into cells. This becomes the reason that when insulin is administered, even the most tiny steroid dosages are much more effectivethan a much larger dose alone.
  2. Since our body (or rather, the liver and muscular system) has limited ability to accumulate glycogen, insulin converts all excess nutrients into subcutaneous fat, and then you will have a painstaking and long struggle with him. To eliminate this problem, you must adhere to certain nutrition rules:
  1. Don't overeat- you need to eat exactly as much as your body requires;
  2. Reduce intake as much as possible "simple" carbohydrates – of sugar origin, since this is the surest and 100% way to get excess subcutaneous fat deposits.
  3. Most athletes focus on performance your weight in order to assess the accumulated “mass”. And this is not at all an objective way of monitoring progress. With increased dosages of insulin, our body will first of all begin to increase fat tissue, so to speak in reserve. At the same time, you will naturally notice an increase in weight, and consider this successful progress. But, if you continue to pump insulin in a similar manner, then in the near future you will transform from a bodybuilder into something similar to a sumo wrestler.

In order not to add to the list of sumo wrestlers, focus, first of all, on the reflection in the mirror and on the sewing tape. Increasing the volume of the biceps, shins, and thighs is exactly what interests us. But an increase in waist circumference and folds of fat hanging above the belt should immediately alert you. Since this is a clear sign that the dosage of insulin you are using is high.

Now that you are largely familiar with main aspects of insulin use, let's move on to considering several ways to use it for the greatest increase in muscle volume. We would like to warn you in advance that in bodybuilding the optimal result is achieved only by "fast" insulin (the one with a short period of action). Long-acting drugs are not suitable for this purpose.

Options for using insulin by bodybuilders

  1. “Loading” technique. This option implies fasting insulin injection. For this reason alone, you should be extremely careful with the dosage of the administered medication. It's worth starting with 4 units. Half an hour after administration, a meal should be taken. It wouldn’t hurt to add up to 25 grams of amino acids to this meal. Since they practically do not need to be digested in the gastrointestinal tract, these amino acids will go directly to the needs of restoration and construction of target muscles. Remember: the operating period of “fast” insulin is limited to 6 hours. You should not plan training processes at this time, especially high-intensity training. Any strength exercise will cause the body to increase glycogen consumption. The consequences of training under the influence of an injection can lead to unpredictable consequences for your health. up to death.
  2. Post-boot “teasing” technique. This variation is intended for those who do not want to take risks. With this method the injection is given immediately after eating, promoting better absorption. With this option, the dosage of injectable insulin is several times lower than with the “loading” option. This is usually around 5 to 10 units.
  3. Pre-workout tease. Despite the smallest dosage of insulin injection, this option can rightly be considered the most extreme of all. It consists of this: approximately 2 hours before training, the athlete eats a full meal (if there are problems with the digestive system, a Festal or Mezima tablet after a meal will not be superfluous). One hour before the training a subcutaneous injection of insulin is given. The dosage of the administered substance should not be more than 5-6 units. In any case, you need to have something sweet with you: a couple of pieces of refined sugar, a chocolate bar, or a bottle of just sweet lemonade. Adherents of this technique testify that they achieve just fantastic pumping, even performing exercises in a strength style (only 4-6 repetitions). But remember this version of training is reminiscent of walking on a tightrope without a crossbar and safety net.
