Sleep Slow

NREM sleep, or orthodox sleep, is a type of sleep characterized by slow waves of brain activity.

During slow-wave sleep, there is a decrease in heart rate, breathing and body temperature. Muscles relax, metabolic processes slow down. This period of sleep is very important for the recovery of the body.

NREM sleep is divided into 4 stages, each of which plays its own role:

  1. The first stage is superficial sleep, a person wakes up easily.

  2. The second stage - spindle-shaped bursts of brain activity appear, indicating deep sleep.

  3. The third and fourth stages are the deepest sleep; at this time it is most difficult to wake a person. Growth hormones are produced.

Sufficient duration and correct structure of slow-wave sleep are extremely important for the normal functioning and recovery of the body. Lack of sleep and disturbances in slow-wave sleep can lead to decreased immunity, problems with memory and attention, and increased irritability.
