Imbalance of results in the clean and jerk and how to eliminate it

When the results in the snatch and clean and jerk increase evenly, the proportion of different exercises in athletes of different qualifications can be approximately the same (Table 1). However, any weightlifter sooner or later encounters such a phenomenon as an imbalance of results in the clean and jerk. How to prevent such negative trends and keep yourself in line with average indicators will be discussed in this article...

For qualified weightlifters, the optimal achievement in the snatch is an average of 78% of the result in the clean and jerk, and in the clean and jerk - 128% of the result in the snatch. The MSMK's achievement in the clean and jerk is on average 127%, and the world record holders' achievement is 126% of the result in the snatch. For a qualified athlete, the optimal ratio would be, for example: snatch—125 kg, clean and jerk—160 kg.

If an athlete’s result in the snatch is behind (for example, it is 120 kg, but the result in the clean and jerk is 160 kg), then the share of snatch exercises is naturally increased. At the same time, they determine what the reason for the lag is - imperfection of technique or insufficient strength readiness.

If the result in the clean and jerk lags (for example, the achievement in the snatch is 125 kg, in the clean and jerk - 155 kg), the increase in the proportion of various exercises depends on which part of the exercise requires improvement. Thus, the result in a half-squat clean should be approximately 87-90% of the result in a half-squat clean, and in a squat with a barbell (for example, for a 75 kg weight category) 126.3 +/-6% of result in the clean and jerk. Therefore, to successfully clean and jerk with a weight of 160 kg, an athlete must lift 142.5-145 kg with a semi-squat and squat with a barbell weighing approximately 202.5 kg.

So, now you know what an imbalance of results in the clean and jerk is and how to eliminate it, and, therefore, you have become one step closer to your champion dream, for which we sincerely congratulate you! Well, and finally, a little curious thing: Do you know that a new weightlifting arena will be built in the Olympic Park in Sochi, not far from the circuit where Formula 1 takes place - I think everyone will agree that this is an excellent contribution to the treasury of our domestic “iron sports” . We will monitor events and notify you of progress in this direction...
