Attention! There is no point in trying to lose weight.

Japanese and Canadian scientists conducted research and found out what weight provides a person with the longest life. It turned out that people with excess body weight live the longest.

Canadian scientists from the University of Portland studied the relationship between body mass index and mortality using an example of more than 11.3 thousand people. The study was conducted from 1994 to 2007. It turned out that thin people have a 70% lower chance of living a long life compared to someone of normal weight. Obese people have a 36% lower chance. At the same time, people who are slightly overweight have a 17% increase in their chances of living the longest.

This study only reflects mortality, not quality of life. Experts remind people of the many negative consequences of obesity, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

A similar study was conducted by Japanese scientists from the Graduate School of Medicine at Tohoku University. For 12 years, they observed 50 thousand people aged 40 to 79 years living in Miyagi Prefecture in the north of the country. They found that those who become slightly overweight by age 40 live on average six to seven years longer than those who are very thin. And obese people live five years longer than thin people.

People with a body mass index of less than 18.5 are considered thin. Normal weight is for people with an index in the range of 18.5-25. 25-30 are people who are slightly overweight. People with an index greater than 30 are obese.
