Eating cheese reduces the risk of tooth decay

Cheese is an extremely healthy product that should be on the menu of every person, especially children. A study conducted by Indian scientists showed that regular consumption of cheese maintains a pH level in the oral cavity that can reduce the risk of tooth decay.

The experiment involved 68 people aged 12 to 15 years. The participants were divided into groups: one consumed cheddar cheese, another - milk, and the third - sugar-free yogurt. After eating the foods, the scientists measured the pH level in the mouth every 10 minutes.

It turned out that in the second and third groups the pH level remained the same, but in the first group it increased significantly. It is known that the normal pH level should be at least 5.5; this indicator protects the enamel from damage. At a lower level, the protection becomes lower. Since cheese increases pH levels, it can be classified as a food that has a beneficial effect on dental health.

How does cheese keep your teeth healthy? During its consumption, abundant saliva is released, which is considered an effective defense against acidity in the mouth. Cheese also contains special substances that attach to tooth enamel and protect it from external influences.
