According to American scientists, people who are trying to smoke less or quit altogether simply need to engage in exercise to overcome the craving for nicotine.
During the study, smokers who planned to quit nicotine addiction were divided into two groups. One group was actively involved in sports throughout the experiment, mainly brisk walking or cycling, while the second group was the control group. At the end of the experiment, it turned out that the volunteers from the “athletes” group had much less desire to smoke after training than usual.
Scientists, however, cannot explain the reason for this effect of physical activity, but according to Professor Adrian Taylor, who leads the study, exercise may be a kind of distraction and also improve mood so much that a person does not feel an urgent need for nicotine.
"While exercise may have temporary benefits, we strongly recommend exercise while quitting cigarettes, as nicotine replacement therapy is a better option than nicotine replacement products," Professor Taylor said.
