Useful Tips for Women in Childbirth

A woman can find out about an approaching birth in about a week if she carefully listens to her feelings. In the last days of pregnancy, it becomes easier for a woman to breathe because the pressure of the uterus on the diaphragm weakens - the baby moves down a little. The stomach drops slightly. Constant discomfort in the lower back. Many women begin to lose weight on the eve of giving birth.

24-48 hours before giving birth, a pregnant woman develops mucous discharge, stained with blood. Uterine contractions become more intense.

Attention: Sometimes women mistake these precursors of labor for contractions that herald the onset of labor and go to the hospital, while the pain suddenly subsides. Therefore, if you feel contractions, do not rush to call an ambulance, but monitor their dynamics for an hour. The beginning of contractions is indicated by something like this: 40 seconds contraction - 20 minutes pause - 40 seconds contraction - 15 minutes pause - 40 seconds contraction - 15 minutes pause - 40 seconds contraction - 15 minutes pause. Simple contractions are not so regular.

During contractions, pain appears in the middle of the back, then spreads to the hips and joins the pain in the abdominal area. During a real contraction, the uterus becomes toned, and the pregnant woman can feel its tension by placing her hand on her stomach.

Actions at the onset of labor

Try to relax: the calmer you are, the faster and less painful the birth will be. If a woman is tense, the cervix dilates slowly.

Focus on proper breathing during contractions: this is necessary for a good supply of oxygen to the baby. When the pain approaches, you need to breathe deeply, taking full inhalations and exhalations. When contractions begin, relax completely and breathe shallowly, inhaling and exhaling quickly and rhythmically. The contraction has passed - take a full breath into your stomach and chest and exhale slowly. In between contractions, rest and breathe normally.

Such breathing exercises can even reduce pain during contractions. Rubbing the lower back from top to bottom in the sacral region and stroking the front surface of the abdomen relieves tension and reduces pain.

If you are hungry, you can eat, but the food should be light. Attention: Do not relieve pain with medications - they can have a negative effect on the child.

Gradually, contractions become longer (up to 1 minute) and painful, and the interval between them decreases. When the respite is 3-5 minutes, it’s time to go to the maternity hospital. If your water breaks, you need to go to the maternity hospital immediately. Normally, the water comes out after the contractions begin, but sometimes this happens before the first signs of labor.

Attention: Pay attention to what the spilled water looks like. Normal waters are odorless, transparent, and yellowish in color.

Put on fresh underwear and a clean pad. Attention: You should go to the maternity hospital by transport. You cannot go to the maternity hospital on foot.
