Sleep for the benefit of the body

Sleep is not only a pleasant pastime, but also an important process for our health. Nature has arranged it in such a way that we spend a third of our lives restoring the body—sleeping. But for sleep to be truly restorative and truly healing, you must follow some rules.

Down with soft feather beds

The most beneficial sleep is on a hard bed. And down with the pillows! Instead, under the neck there is a cushion of medium softness, as thick as an arm. It supports the cervical spine and promotes greater relaxation.

Nightcap

The main requirement for the night toilet is no elastic bands or belts that compress the blood vessels. It is even healthier to sleep without any clothes at all. Another thing is hats. Although we have not followed the custom of our ancestors for a long time - putting on caps and caps at night. But during sleep, our body temperature drops, and we become vulnerable to colds! Please note that even a strip of fabric (especially woolen) wrapped around the head and forehead perfectly protects against runny nose and sinusitis.

Compass in bed

In the East, it is customary to go to sleep with your head towards sunrise, in the West - with your head to the north. There is no mysticism here. After all, the Earth is a large magnet, the lines of force of which stretch along the meridians between the north and south poles. So in what position does the body recuperate better? Sverdlovsk doctors conducted an interesting experiment. In the evening, the subjects randomly went to sleep on the floor. And in the morning, the influence of well-being and mood on body position was analyzed. It turned out that an overworked, deathly tired person, as a rule, sleeps with his head facing east. But if he was overexcited before going to bed, then in his sleep he would position his head to the north.

We are all subjective in assessing our emotional state, so it is better to trust your instinct: let the body itself find the optimal position for sleep. You just need to create the appropriate conditions for it. It is likely that “airport” beds, on which you can sleep lengthwise and crosswise, have become fashionable not only because of “sexual convenience”...

What does the pose tell you?

Of course, during the night the position of the body changes more than once. But what is the best sleeping position? American scientists consider the most optimal position for relaxation and good rest to be on the back, when the head and neck lie on a pillow and the body is in a straight line. This position allows the spine to be in a natural position without twisting, which helps avoid back and neck pain.

However, if you have problems with snoring or sleep apnea, sleeping on your back is not recommended as it may worsen your symptoms. In this case, it is better to sleep on your side, with a pillow between your legs to support the spine and reduce the load on the hip joints. If you like to sleep on your stomach, it is better to choose a firmer pillow and not turn your head to the side.

It's important to remember that the position in which we sleep can give clues about our emotional state. For example, if you sleep curled up in a ball, this may indicate feelings of insecurity and vulnerability. If you sleep stretched out on your back with your arms out to the sides, this may indicate a feeling of confidence and comfort.

In general, to get the best sleep for your body, you should choose the right bed, maintain optimal temperature and humidity in the room, and avoid drinking alcohol and caffeinated drinks before bed. And remember that every body is individual, so experiment and choose the pose that helps you achieve maximum relaxation and rest.
