Scientists compare insomnia to alcohol intoxication

Scientists from New Zealand have discovered that insomnia affects the brain like alcohol.

The study found that every 5 hours without sleep is equivalent to the impact of one alcoholic drink on the body. This explains the state of insomnia, which is similar to the effect of alcohol intoxication.

What to do if you can't sleep?

Scientists were even able to study the proportionality of the effect. For example, 20 hours of wakefulness are equal to the negative impact of drinking 2 liters of beer. At the same time, the perception of the surrounding world is not as distorted as during alcohol intoxication, but brain activity is the same in these two conditions.

Based on the results of the study, it can be argued that you should not drive a vehicle after a sleepless night. It is also recommended to avoid activities that require maximum concentration, attention and memory.
