Vegetarians are happier than meat eaters

Vegetables and fruits in the diet help a person maintain mental health, feel happy and satisfied with life. This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by British scientists.

They analyzed data on the diet and psychological state of 80 thousand people. It has been found that the amount of vegetables and fruits eaten is directly related to life satisfaction. The happiest people called themselves the people who, as it turned out, consume about 600 g of such products daily, which corresponds to the total weight of two apples, two tomatoes and one carrot.

The mechanism of the effect of vegetables and fruits on life satisfaction has not yet been revealed. However, it can be assumed that the beneficial substances contained in plant foods have a beneficial effect on a person’s psycho-emotional state.

At the same time, excess meat and other animal products seem to have a negative impact on happiness. This may be due to their higher content of saturated fat and cholesterol, which have an adverse effect on the body.

Thus, the study results indicate that a vegetarian diet may promote greater life satisfaction compared to a diet high in meat. Although more research is needed for definitive conclusions, we can now recommend increasing the proportion of plant foods in your diet to maintain a good mood and a sense of happiness.
