Diet of a nursing mother

The diet of a nursing mother is a question that arises before almost every woman. This principle of nutrition is primarily aimed at transmitting vitamins and nutrients to the child through mother’s milk, and the second task is to lose extra pounds accumulated during pregnancy and prevent their occurrence. The times when it was believed that a nursing woman should eat for two are long gone, and besides, as scientists have proven, large portions and high-calorie dishes have no effect on the quantity and quality of milk. Eat a balanced diet, eat only those foods that will truly benefit you and your child.

The diet for breastfeeding women is followed for as long as the breastfeeding process takes place. At first, the list of prohibited foods is large, since children at an early age react acutely to many foods - some develop gas and colic, others have problems with stool, and others have an allergic rash. In the future, you can periodically pamper yourself with some healthy products from the prohibition list, but you should always monitor your child’s reaction.

If you introduce a new product into your diet, do it right. Eat a small amount of new food and wait for your baby's reaction. The main indicator of rejection is the skin. Redness and a rash can form within a day or three. If this happens or your child develops the above symptoms, immediately eliminate this product from your diet. It is advisable to eat at least 6 times a day in small portions.

The daily diet of a nursing mother should look like this:

  1. Protein - 150 gr.
  2. Fat - 100 gr.
  3. Carbohydrates - 500 gr.
  4. Water - 2 liters.
  5. Calcium - cottage cheese, cheese, cabbage, potatoes
  6. Phosphorus - fish, nuts, green peas, whole wheat grains, meat, mushrooms, celery
  7. Vitamins - raw fruits and vegetables

When dieting for nursing mothers, you need to strictly regulate the amount of fluid consumed per day. There should be a lot of fluid in order for milk to be produced, but not so much that you experience discomfort from fullness in the breast area. The best drinks are: green tea with milk, plain water and dried fruit compotes.
