The history of muesli breakfast cereals originates in Switzerland. The Swiss doctor Maximilian Bircher-Benner is rightfully considered the father of muesli. Once, almost 100 years ago, as the owner of a sanatorium, in order to attract as many tourists as possible, he came up with a bait - an unusual dish made from natural products, and called it muesli.
Very soon this dish became a favorite of the Swiss themselves. Of course, initially it was just porridge with apples. But over time, Maximilian experimented and added more and more new components to it. Later, he developed a recipe for muesli and crunches, rich in vitamins, mineral macro- and microelements. People liked his idea of breakfast cereals so much that muesli began to be consumed outside the clinic. This is how the history of muesli began. Muesli is still considered one of the symbols of Switzerland. Gradually, breakfast cereals entered our lives. And now, a century later, muesli is still popular and is winning more and more new fans every day.
Now there are hundreds of manufacturing companies on the breakfast cereal market, which have many different types of muesli in their arsenal, to suit every taste and budget. In Ukraine, breakfast cereals - muesli - appeared in the early 90s and occupied their niche in the food market. Many manufacturers position muesli as an integral part of the diet for those watching their weight. Plant fibers in muesli create a feeling of fullness for a long time.
The main producers of muesli in Ukraine are Nestle, AXA, Fructalia, Eco, Dr. Benner. Imported muesli is several times more expensive than domestic ones. Ukrainian companies do not yet invest in marketing and advertising of their products.
Surveys show that in large cities consumers prefer well-known brands, while in the regions the price factor is more important. Regular consumers of muesli are often wealthy families and women who watch their figure.
Thus, muesli still remains a product for people with a certain level of income and a conscious attitude towards healthy eating. For breakfast cereals to become a mass product in Ukraine, efforts by producers are needed to reduce prices and popularize muesli as an element of a healthy lifestyle. And most importantly - the growth of the population's well-being.
