Diet No. 7, table No. 7: moderate kidney sparing and improved metabolism

Diet No. 7, also known as Table No. 7, is one of the most common diets for people suffering from acute or chronic nephritis. It is intended to moderately spare kidney function, reduce hypertension and edema, and also improve the excretion of nitrogenous and other metabolic products from the body.

Indications for prescribing diet No. 7 include acute nephritis during the recovery period (from the 3-4th week of treatment) and chronic nephritis without exacerbation and kidney failure.

The general characteristic of diet No. 7 is that the protein content is somewhat limited, fats and carbohydrates are within physiological norms. Food is prepared without sodium chloride, and salt is given to the patient in the amount specified by the doctor (3-6 g or more). The amount of free liquid is reduced to an average of 1 liter. Extractive substances of meat, fish, mushrooms, sources of oxalic acid and essential oils are excluded. Culinary processing is carried out without mechanical and with moderate chemical sparing. Meat and fish (100-150 g per day) are boiled. The food temperature is normal.

The chemical composition and caloric content of dietary table No. 7 are as follows: carbohydrates - 400-450 g (80-90 g of sugar); proteins - 80 g (50-60% animal), fats - 90-100 g (25% vegetable), calories - 2700-2900 kcal; free liquid - 0.9-1.1 l.

The diet for diet No. 7 involves 4-5 meals a day.

Recommended foods include vegetarian soups with vegetables, grains, potatoes, fruit soups, and a limited amount of dairy soups. Soups are seasoned with butter, sour cream, dill, parsley, citric acid, vinegar, and onions after boiling and sautéing. Meat, fish and mushroom broths, and legumes are excluded.

Bread and flour products should be salt-free, such as pancakes, pancakes with yeast and without salt. Regular baked bread and flour products with added sodium chloride are excluded.

Meat and poultry should be lean, such as beef, veal, meat and trimmed pork, lamb, rabbit, chicken, turkey, boiled or baked without adding oil. Fish should be low in fat, such as flounder, cod, pike, perch, carp, pike perch, boiled or baked without adding oil. Seafood is limited.

It is recommended to consume low-fat or low-fat dairy products, such as cottage cheese, kefir, yogurt, sour cream, milk, and low-fat cheese. Butter, fatty cheeses, cream, and condensed milk are excluded.

It is recommended to consume eggs in limited quantities, no more than 1-2 eggs per day, in the form of scrambled or boiled eggs.

It is recommended to consume vegetables in large quantities, such as potatoes, carrots, beets, pumpkin, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, beans, peas, green peas, cauliflower, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, herbs, onions, garlic. Spicy, sour, salty vegetables are excluded.

It is recommended to consume fruits and berries fresh, boiled, baked, in the form of compotes, jellies, mousses, juices, and dried fruits. Sour, sweet, spicy fruits and berries are excluded.

It is recommended to consume sweets in limited quantities, such as honey, sugar, jam, cookies, waffles, marmalade, fruit and berry desserts. Chocolate, sweets, cakes and pastries are excluded.

It is recommended to consume non-alcoholic drinks, such as tea, coffee, mineral water, compotes, jelly, juices, and herbal decoctions. Alcoholic drinks, carbonated drinks, strong tea and coffee are excluded.
