Fructose interferes with thinking

Fruit sugar inhibits thought processes. Scientists from the University of California at Los Angeles found that a high concentration of fructose in the body interferes with remembering, processing and mastering new information.

Simply put, excess fruit sugar makes a person much sluggish, which can be dangerous in extreme situations. True, there is a way out of this situation. Omega-3 fatty acids can be used as antioxidants. They protect synapses from damage and the transmission of nerve impulses from one cell to another remains at a standard level, which helps maintain the speed of the reaction.

The experiments were carried out on laboratory rats, which were put into a maze and forced to look for a way out, guided by visual cues. Over 5 days, the animals memorized the disposition. After which they were divided into two groups, each of which ate a special way. Some ate only “sweets” (corn syrup), while others supplemented with omega-3 fatty acids. After 6 weeks, the “sweet tooth” began to get lost in the familiar maze, while the rats from the second group easily found a way out.

So diets in which it is recommended to replace sugar with fructose can also cause side effects. The study authors recommend keeping fructose consumption to a minimum. It is better to eat live fruits and berries.
