Diet for the liver

For any diseases of the internal organs, diet is an important factor in treatment. With liver dysfunction, proper nutrition plays a special role. In this article we will talk about the diet for the liver, which is recommended by doctors for cirrhosis, cholecystitis, chronic hepatitis and other liver diseases.

Signs of poor liver function may include yellowish whites of the eyes, age spots, a bitter taste in the mouth, weakness, poor digestion and pain in the right side. Diet No. 5 is the most common diet recommended for liver diseases. It simply means proper nutrition: excluding very fatty, salty and sweet foods, preservatives and processed foods. Thus, it reduces the load on the liver, but at the same time maintains a balanced and nutritious diet.

When eating on a diet, it is allowed to consume milk and a variety of dairy products, beef, veal, boiled or stewed chicken, boiled fresh low-fat fish (pike perch, cod, navaga, perch, ice fish), vegetables and fruits, sauerkraut, vegetable soups , cereals, dairy, cereal and flour products, honey, jam, marshmallows, marmalade.

You should limit the consumption of foods such as butter (no more than 50-70 g for adults and 30-40 g for children), eggs (no more than 2-3 times a week, in the form of an omelet), mild cheese in small quantities, dietary sausage, salmon and sturgeon caviar, herring, tomatoes.

The following products are strictly prohibited: alcoholic beverages, all types of fried, smoked and pickled foods, pork, lamb, goose, duck, liver, brains, spicy seasonings such as horseradish, pepper, mustard, vinegar, onions, legumes, confectionery with large amounts of fat (for example, cakes and pastries), chocolate, chocolates, cocoa, coffee, nuts, ice cream, tomato juice.

Very useful foods for normalizing liver function are apples, avocados, dried apricots, beets, greens and leafy green vegetables, turkey, turmeric, green tea.

Meals should be fractional (about 5 times a day), while making sure that you consume 100 g of protein, 80-100 g of healthy fats and 400-450 g of carbohydrates daily. It should be prepared by baking, steaming or boiling. It is not recommended to use meat broths and fried dressings for preparing soups. Cook meat and fish without using fat.
